Episode 7: Pushing boundaries with Maha al Musa

Maha al Musa

I was delighted to speak to Maha, founder of Embody Birth to ask the four usual questions: What were you like as a girl? How did you come to this calling? Do cycles affect your work? Please describe a transformational moment in your life.

Maha had so many transformational moments to share. She shares the dramatic start to her life with being kidnapped by her father and taken to a new country and the reclaiming of her heritage as she learnt to bellydance in pregnancy.

She is the founder of EmbodyBirth and BellydanceBirth since 1997, and is an international independent award winning childbirth educator and speaker, birth counsellor, and mentor.

Maha is also a breastfeeding advocate having stood strongly as a solo voice for mothers, babies and children in the worldwide media for public and natural term breastfeeding from 2012-16.

She has appeared on many media channels including Sunrise TV, Mornings Show, A Current Affair, Inside Story, Australian Woman's Day, Take 5, Discovery Channel, CNN, and other global media. Maha is the author of Dance of the Womb: The Essential Guide to Belly Dance for Pregnancy and Birth book, endorsed by Dr Michel Odent, Sheila Kitzinger, Dr Sarah Buckley and the creator of the follow on BellydanceBirth® Practice Video Series (Dance of the Womb: A Gentle Guide to Belly Dance for Pregnancy and Birth).
